On May 25, Vitalik Buterin outlined three major directions for Ethereum privacy upgrades. First, Account Abstraction combined with FOCIL reduces transaction censorship risk, and EIP-8250 introduces keyed nonces to avoid exposing user activity patterns through sequential transactions from a single wallet address. Second, a zero-knowledge payment standard would replace standard transfers with ZK-SNARKs, allowing users to prove payment validity without revealing balances or transaction history, with recursive SNARKs enabling private L2 payments at speeds and costs close to public transactions. Third, at the infrastructure level, the Kohaku wallet framework along with ORAM and PIR technologies prevent RPC nodes from tracking user requests. Vitalik stated that 2026 is the key year to reverse the "regression" in privacy.
