Israeli Foreign Minister: The Strait of Hormuz crisis is a global maritime terrorism issue
Israel’s foreign minister said that during a phone call with the French foreign minister, we discussed the war in Iran and Lebanon. I emphasized that the issue in the Strait of Hormuz is not an issue for the United States or Israel, but a global one. This is maritime terrorism that damages the global economy. It began with the Houthis launching attacks in the Red Sea, and now the Iranian regime itself is doing the same. International society’s tacit acceptance of this serious phenomenon will encourage harm to freedom of navigation and the global economy, and it will show up in other waters as well. This is a serious disruption to the global order.
Regarding the issue of Lebanon—I emphasized that since March 2, Israel has been hit by more than 2,000 attacks from Lebanese territory, using missiles and drones. Israel wants Lebanon to join in the regional normalization and peace process. What blocks this process is Hezbollah. The Lebanese government must take concrete measures on all fronts to confront Hezbollah: weapons, sources of funding and financial infrastructure, legal measures against its senior officials, social and educational infrastructure, economic interests (licenses), and so on. Israel is committed to protecting itself and its citizens against this terrorist state, which has controlled Lebanon and acts in accordance with the interests of the Iranian regime.
