Just had my card stuck in an ATM and honestly it was stressful. But turns out there's actually a decent process to follow if this happens to you. First thing - don't panic and just wait a minute or two. Sometimes the machine glitches and spits it back out. I checked the card slot to see if anything looked weird or broken, which apparently can be a sign someone tampered with it.
Since mine was at my bank's branch, I went inside and told an employee right away. They were actually helpful and marked the ATM out of service. If your card stuck in atm happens at some random ATM that's not at your bank, you're probably not getting it back, so write down all the details - which bank, what time, location, everything. Your bank will want that info.
Then I called my bank's customer service and reported it. They canceled my card immediately and are sending a replacement. Fair warning though - if you need it fast, there might be a rush fee. Also remember to update any autopay stuff linked to that card once the new one arrives.
The annoying part is monitoring your account after. If your card stuck in atm was due to tampering, watch for sketchy charges. Apparently if you report it lost before anyone uses it, you're covered. But if you wait more than 60 days, you could lose everything in your account. So yeah, don't sleep on this. Moral of the story - use ATMs at your actual bank's branches when you can. Safer and you avoid fees too.
