I took a look at who holds the most bitcoins in the world. The results are quite interesting and show how concentrated the Bitcoin market actually is.
The pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto leads the list with an estimated 1.1 million BTC. Crazy that these coins have never been moved since the early days. This naturally leads to constant speculation about his true intentions. Following are institutional players such as a large American investment firm with over 300,000 BTC and a well-known US exchange platform with nearly 300,000 BTC. These figures demonstrate how much traditional financial institutions are now investing in Bitcoin.
Also interesting: investment firms like Grayscale hold over 260,000 BTC, providing millions of investors with indirect access to Bitcoin. MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor, has accumulated over 226,000 BTC through aggressive accumulation and is fully committed to long-term growth. Governments also play a role — the US holds over 213,000 BTC mainly from seizures, while China holds about 190,000 BTC.
Looking at who holds the most bitcoins overall, a clear picture emerges: Satoshi remains unreachable, but behind him, institutional players and governments control a huge share. This underscores how important Bitcoin has become for the global market.
