Just saw that Meta brought in C.J. Mahoney as their new chief legal officer. The guy's coming from Microsoft and apparently spent time as deputy trade representative under Trump, so he knows his way around both tech and government stuff pretty well. Interesting timing given all the regulatory heat Meta's been dealing with lately. Mahoney starts this week reporting directly to Zuckerberg, which suggests they're taking legal strategy pretty seriously right now. Their previous CLO Jennifer Newstead is heading over to Apple next month, which is a pretty big move in itself. She helped Meta defend against that whole thing with the Instagram and WhatsApp acquisitions that the government tried to block, so she was clearly solid at her job. But I guess they wanted someone with more direct government experience? C.J. Mahoney's background in trade policy could be useful if Meta's facing more regulatory battles ahead. The company's been under fire for not protecting young users well enough and getting called out on how their platforms affect kids mentally. Bringing in someone who understands policy and international regulation might be their way of getting ahead of that. Not sure if a new legal officer fixes those kinds of problems, but it definitely signals they're treating it seriously.
