Be cautious with the peso these days; it has been gaining ground against the dollar for two consecutive days. Today, it closed at 17.15 pesos per US dollar, with an appreciation of 0.10 percent. The thing is, the dollar is generally weaker, so it's not just a local movement. At the counters, you can already find it at 17.58 pesos each. Interestingly, analysts say there is still room for the peso to strengthen further, although they also warn that there could soon be an upward correction in the exchange rate. Curiously, other regional currencies are also gaining against the dollar at the moment, from the Brazilian real to the Colombian peso. If you're interested in knowing how much 10 euros is in Mexican pesos, basically multiply by the peso-dollar exchange rate and then apply the euro-dollar parity, so at these levels, we're talking about a little over 180 pesos. Mexican 10-year bonds are still yielding quite well at 8.75 percent, almost double the US bonds. Everything suggests that the market is giving the peso a breather after the pressures it faced recently.
