That gap—where technology races ahead of accountability—is exactly what I picked up on at India's Youth Eco Summit back in February. And honestly, it's reshaping how I think about customer experience.



Students from 66 Indian cities showed up to interrogate AI's environmental and social footprint. But here's what struck me: this wasn't a policy debate. It was a master class in CX blind spots. Because when young users start questioning AI's intent instead of its features, that's a signal CX leaders need to hear.

The summit positioned youth as active co-designers of future systems. That matters because customers don't say 'your algorithm is unethical.' They say 'this feels manipulative' or 'I don't trust this.' That's experience debt building quietly in your journey.

What really stood out was how cultural influencers reframed AI from 'what it can do' to 'what it does to us.' That emotional translation? That's the missing piece in most CX strategies. We optimize touchpoints without questioning consequences. We scale engagement without respecting attention limits. We personalize aggressively instead of responsibly.

The interactive zones at the summit revealed something dashboards never show. There was an AI Meme Studio where participants used humor to expose energy-heavy algorithms and greenwashing in tech narratives. Memes became experience diagnostics. If your customers made memes about your AI, what would they mock? What would they question? If that makes you uncomfortable, good. Discomfort signals insight.

TECNO Mobile India's CEO framed something crucial: innovation without intent accelerates experience fatigue. That reframed how I think about AI deployment. Intent becomes the north star, not just efficiency metrics. You're not automating touchpoints; you're reducing meaningful friction. You're not personalizing aggressively; you're personalizing responsibly.

The collaboration theme matters too. No single function owns responsible experiences anymore. Marketing can't own trust alone. IT can't own ethics alone. CX can't own accountability alone. This mirrors what many organizations face: siloed teams shipping disconnected experiences. The new operating model is a triangle—technology teams build capability, CX teams shape behavior, culture carriers validate meaning. Ignore one, and experience fractures.

Trust doesn't form through compliance frameworks. It forms through resonance. Users need to see themselves reflected in systems. They need to know innovation respects human limits. They need experiences that align with their lived reality. That's where emotion becomes infrastructure.

I've started thinking about CX stewardship differently now. The concept of stewardship—taking responsibility for something entrusted to you—that's what responsible AI demands. It's what the summit was really about. In Bengali culture, stewardship carries deep meaning around guardianship and responsibility to community. That resonates with what these young people were asking for: systems designed with accountability baked in, not bolted on.

The framework I'm using now is simpler: Reflect impact across journeys. Explain AI decisions so they're not mysterious. Simplify consumption to reduce digital excess. Open collaboration loops with users. Normalize accountability in your KPIs. Align internal culture with external experience. Test how AI makes people feel. Evolve transparently when things change. That's stewardship in practice.

Here's what stuck with me most: youth weren't rejecting AI. They were rejecting thoughtless AI. That distinction matters because what young people demand today—transparency, participation, purpose—that's what mainstream customers will demand tomorrow.

So the real question for CX leaders isn't whether AI is efficient. It's whether it will be remembered as responsible. In the age of experience, that's what defines relevance.
