I just remembered that the free license plate replacement period in Jalisco has recently ended. Turns out, if your plates ended in 4, 5, 6, or 7 and you didn't complete the process before February 28th, now you have to pay the full 2,500 pesos. I almost missed it too, but I managed to schedule my appointment on the tax collector's portal in time.
What surprised me was that most people didn't know they had to bring the old plates in original. Also, it turns out that the Maguey, Minerva, and Gota plates have not been legal for a while. Now only the Collage and Cabañas designs are valid. If you were transferring ownership in Jalisco during that period, you had to have everything updated in the vehicle registry or your appointment would be rejected.
My brother missed the deadline and is now paying the full cost. If anyone still hasn't transferred ownership or updated their plates, it's better not to wait any longer because after March there will be no promotion. You needed to present ID, proof of ownership, and proof of address. Quite a process, but at least it was free while it lasted.
