Just got a reminder about updating SASSA details before the deadline hits. If you're getting monthly sassa payment and haven't updated your banking info in a while, here's what you need to know.

For permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you can't do this online unfortunately. You need to go to your local SASSA office in person with your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and fill out the Payment Method Change Form. They'll send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month or your payment uses the old method for another cycle.

If you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way easier - everything's online through their portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a verification link via SMS, and you can update your bank details that way. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify though.

Phone number changes are important too since that's how they send you payment notifications and verification codes. Same deal - permanent grants need an office visit, but SRD lets you do it online through their contact details page. Just make sure whatever account you're linking is solely in your name, no joint accounts.

If the online stuff isn't working, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit in person. Better safe than sorry when it comes to this month's sassa payment reaching your account on time.
