I just found out that the deadline for free license plate replacement in Jalisco has already passed, and honestly, it's a mess. If your license plate ended in 4, 5, 6, or 7, you should have completed the process before February 28th, but now it's April, so you have to pay the full 2,500 pesos. That really hurts.

What surprised me is that it's not just about changing the plate for the sake of changing it. It turns out that the old designs like Maguey, Minerva, and Gota are no longer legal according to federal regulations. Now, only the Collage type plates or the newer Cabañas plates with QR codes and all the security features are valid. If you have a motorcycle or car with old plates, you need to physically turn them in to get the new ones.

Now, if you haven't completed the process yet, you need to have everything in order: a valid INE, proof of ownership (invoice or whatever you have), a recent proof of address, and vehicle verification. You can schedule an appointment on the sefinenlinea portal, but I imagine it's already fully booked. What is clear is that the cost of motorcycle plates in Jalisco is now much higher if you didn't take advantage of the extension. Basically, if your vehicle is registered in Jalisco and you need to update your plates, there's no way to avoid the expense anymore. Some friends still don't know this, so I’ll pass along the info.
