I just checked, and wow, the fines for expired licenses in Edomex are now on a whole different level. Recently, the fine for an expired license skyrocketed to $2,346 pesos if you have prior violations—nothing like what it used to be. All this due to the update of the UMA, which went from $113 to $117 pesos.

What surprises me is that it's not a flat fine for everyone. The penalty for an expired license now depends on your record: if you're clean, it's $1,876, but if you already have pending sanctions, it increases to $2,111 or even $2,346 pesos. Plus, your car gets impounded, so add the towing costs.

And that's not all. Other infractions have also increased: using a cellphone while driving, parking in prohibited areas, speeding. The fine for an expired license is among the highest, but basically everything has been updated with the UMA. If your documents are not up to date, it's better to get them sorted now. Has anyone else just realized this?
