Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA details, especially when it comes to SRD. Been through this myself and it's actually not that complicated once you know what to do.

So here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you can't just change your banking details online. You have to go to a SASSA office in person, fill out the Payment Method Change Form, bring your ID and proof of your new bank account (bank statement or letter from the bank, nothing older than 3 months). They'll process it and send it to the bank for verification, which takes up to 21 working days. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it active for the next payment cycle, otherwise you wait another month.

But if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's way easier. Everything's online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You enter your ID number, they send you a secure SMS link, you click it and update your bank details there. Takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify, but it's straightforward. Just make sure the account is in your name - they won't pay into joint or third-party accounts.

Updating your phone number is important too, especially for SRD since they use it to send you verification codes and payment notifications. For SRD, use the contact details portal on their website - you'll need your ID and application ID, enter the new number, they send you an OTP to verify. For permanent grants, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local office.

One thing everyone should know: there are fake SASSA websites out there trying to scam people. Always use the official portal and never share your details with unofficial links. If the online process is giving you trouble, just call or go to your nearest SASSA office - it's slower but safer.
