Just realized a lot of people are confused about updating their SASSA details, especially the cellphone number part. Let me break down what actually works because the official site can be pretty confusing.

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child support), you basically have to go to a SASSA office in person. No shortcuts. You need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement from last 3 months), and they'll give you a form to fill out. Takes up to 21 working days to process, so submit before the 15th if you want it to kick in next month.

For the SRD R370 grant though, it's all online which is actually way easier. Go to the SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, you click it and update your banking info there. Takes a few days to weeks for verification but at least you don't have to go anywhere.

Now here's the thing people miss - if you need to change your cellphone number, that's different depending on which grant you're on. SRD users can do it through their contact details page on the portal, enter the new number, get an OTP sent to confirm it. For permanent grants, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office.

One warning though: there are fake websites out there claiming they can change your details. Don't fall for it. Always use the official SASSA portal or go in person. Your personal info is too important to risk on some sketchy link.

Has anyone else dealt with this recently? The process is getting better but still feels unnecessarily complicated for something that should be straightforward.
