The person who handled the teleprompter for Trump made $100k on prediction markets by stealing a peek at the speech script.
In prediction markets, there’s actually a market called “Mentions,” where bets are placed on whether the president will say a certain word during his address.
The guy in the screenshot is named Gabriel Perez. Since 2016, he has been managing Trump’s teleprompter, and for every speech he is the last person to see the script.
Over three months, he placed bets on more than a dozen addresses, including the State of the Union, and he hit every one. After Kalshi’s own risk cont

Yesterday, a Tom Ford black leather jacket that Huang Renxun personally wore and signed sold for $960k at Sotheby’s charity auction.
The auction house had originally estimated it at $40k to $60k. 45 collectors kept bidding higher along the way, and it ultimately sold for 16 times the highest estimate.
Based on Sotheby’s highest estimate, this jacket was priced at a 1500% premium. In the same period, $NVDA ’s expected P/E ratio was only about 6% to 20% higher than the S&P 500.
The jacket is Huang Renxun’s asset with the highest premium right now—it may really be a jacket.

Over the past few hours, some investment groups have been wildly sharing a “breaking” news post:
It claims that Trump will give an emergency nationwide speech on the evening of July 17, imposing a comprehensive blockade against China—permanent chip supply cutoffs, 100% tariffs, and a six-month shutdown and clearance of manufacturing…—interpreted as a decision that fully decouples China-U.S. economic and trade ties.
It also says the headlines were signed with Reuters, Bloomberg, the WaPo, and CNBC exclusive breaking news at the same time?
The editor checked these four media outlets one by one.

The South Korean government is preparing to impose additional taxes on ultra-expensive homes, and Lee Jae-myung first sold his only residence for a high price.
The policy is still being drafted, and the president is already ready to step down from the homeowners’ group.
In 1998, Lee Jae-myung and his wife spent 360 million won to buy a 164-square-meter apartment in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province. They lived there for nearly 30 years, until moving into the presidential residence.
This February, Lee Jae-myung listed the property for sale, pricing it at 2.9 billion won—nearly 10% lower than surroundi

India is a fascinating country—let’s take a look at their crypto situation.
In the trading volume of local CEXs, more than 80% comes from futures and perpetual contracts, while spot is left at only around 20%.
Are Indian guys just more willing to gamble?
Hard to say—first, let’s look at the spot tax bills.
Starting in 2022, Indian traders must withhold 1% TDS before selling any crypto spot, i.e., advance withholding tax.
This 1% is not the final tax burden; later you can claim it as a credit or apply for a refund. But as long as you trade frequently, every time you execute a trade, a portion o

Many people think the internet ecosystem in Silicon Valley is more standardized than in China, with better protections for user rights. After reading what happened on Reddit, you’ll find that the “scarecrow” species exists regardless of borders.
On Reddit, hundreds of millions of users post, reply, and fight every day. According to disclosures in Reddit’s own IPO prospectus, the platform has signed multiple data licensing agreements with a total value of more than $200 million, and the content produced by users has been licensed to AI companies for model training. But if users themselves use A

A South Korean investment YouTuber was confronted at home by one of his subscribers with a knife.
On July 13 in the morning, inside a commercial building in Nam-gu, Busan, a man in his 20s repeatedly stabbed a stock investment YouTuber in his 40s, then fled the scene. The victim has injuries to multiple parts of his face and body, but there is no danger to his life at present. The suspect was arrested for attempted murder.
The Korean media said the suspect was originally a subscriber to the channel. After trusting the host’s investment calls and suffering substantial losses, he developed resen

The greatest unsolved mystery: how do companies that sell AI models actually make money?
I read an insightful article from @michael_lwy that found the answer from the Hong Kong MTR.
MTR (MTR Corporation) is one of the very few subway systems in the world that doesn’t rely on government subsidies and can sustain itself. It’s even a publicly listed company, distributing dividends every year. However, when it comes to making money, it’s not from ticket prices.
Public data shows that at its best time, the railway operating profit was HK$2 billion, but in the same period the three years of capital

Hedge funds suddenly reversed course on semiconductor stocks.
Last week, hedge funds’ net buying strength in U.S. semiconductor and equipment shares hit a new high for at least the past three and a half years.
And just two weeks earlier, they were still selling at large scale, with net selling momentum reaching the highest level since June 2024.
Semiconductor stocks currently account for about 10% of their net exposure in U.S. equities, double the level in the same period last year, but still below the 14% peak in May this year.
Hedge funds are betting that the sell-off in semiconducto

Zou Shiming and his wife were also taken for a ride in the crypto world.
According to public reports, Zou Shiming and his wife made blind expansions during their entrepreneurial journey, with decision-making going wrong one after another.
Over the course of 7 years, they registered more than 20 related companies in one go, and their business reach extended into multiple popular areas such as catering, film and television, esports, live streaming, and clothing retail. The influencer hot pot and milk tea shops led by Ran Yingying focused on marketing only and not on quality; their per-capita

Anthropic has been sued again by about 100 authors, and CEO Dario Amodei as well as co-founder Benjamin Mann have also been named as individual defendants.
This all traces back to a prior class action lawsuit.
There was previously a class action called Bartz v. Anthropic. The judge ruled that Anthropic’s use of pirated books to train models was not fair use, and the case eventually settled with about $1.5 billion in damages (roughly $3,000 per book on average).
Most authors accepted the settlement, but around 100 authors opted out. On June 17, these authors filed a new lawsuit on their own
