Just realized how many people are struggling to update their SASSA details, especially if you're on the my SRD grant. The process is actually different depending on which grant you're getting, and honestly, it's a bit confusing at first.

If you're getting permanent grants like old age or disability, you basically have to physically go to a SASSA office—can't do it online. You'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (a recent bank statement works), and you have to fill out the payment method change form. The whole verification thing takes up to 21 working days, and here's the annoying part: if you submit after the 15th of the month, they won't process it until the next cycle. So timing matters.

But here's what's different with my SRD—it's all online, which is way easier. You go to the SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they send you a link via SMS to update your bank details or phone number. The bank account has to be in your name though; they won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that. The verification takes a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the bank.

One thing I've seen people mess up: they use unofficial websites claiming to help update their my SRD info. Don't do that. Always stick to the official SASSA portal. And if the online system isn't working (it happens), just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office in person. Honestly, sometimes the phone or in-person route is faster than dealing with the website bugs, especially when you're trying to change your cellphone number on my SRD. Just a heads up if you're planning to update anything soon.
