Canned chuhai really has more varieties these days. Of course, lemon and grapefruit are popular, but recently there are many unique flavors like tea and honey. The alcohol content varies widely, and many products are low in calories and sugar. I bet many people are confused about which one to choose.

So, I gathered the latest products from popular brands and 27 best-selling canned chuhai on Amazon, Rakuten, and Yahoo! Shopping, and actually compared and tested them. Focusing on taste, I will introduce the truly recommended canned chuhai in a ranking format.

1st place is Asahi Beer’s "Slat Chardonnay Sour." Zero sugar and 20 kcal per 100mL, with pulp bits inside. It has 3% alcohol but is not too sweet and has a refreshing taste. The grapefruit pulp gives it a slightly bitter flavor. One can is only 70 kcal, making it healthy, and it's recommended for those who dislike overly sweet chuhai.

2nd place is Japan Coca-Cola’s "Lemon-dou Umasio Lemon." It has 7% alcohol and is made using the "pre-mixed method," where whole lemons are grated and soaked in alcohol. It’s less tart, and the saltiness balances the sweetness. It’s surprisingly easy to drink for 7%, perfect for summer nights, and pairs excellently with salty foods.

3rd place is Takara Shuzo’s "Shochu with Soft Tea Mix." 4% alcohol, zero sugar and purines. It uses mainly green tea, so you can drink it daily like tea. People who prefer unsweetened alcohol say they want to drink it every day. However, it might be less satisfying for those who like sweet chuhai.

4th place is Suntory Holdings’ "Horoyoi Honey Lemon." Since its release in 2011, it has been a staple in the Horoyoi series. The balance of lemon acidity and honey sweetness is excellent, with almost no alcohol taste. It’s recommended for beginners who aren’t strong drinkers.

5th place is Kirin Beer’s "Hyoketsu Chardonnay Sparkling." Rebranded in May 2022, it features a freezing process using squeezed fruit juice. It has a sparkling wine-like elegance and a flavor that makes you want to drink it every day. Slight bitterness balances the sweetness, making it easy to pair with meals.

6th place is "Horoyoi White Sour." Lactobacillus flavor, sweet yet refreshing. It can be drunk like juice, making it suitable for beginners. However, some say drinking it every night might be tough. It’s best as a weekly treat.

7th place is Japan Coca-Cola’s "Lemon-dou Classic Lemon." 5% alcohol, no artificial sweeteners. It has a rich flavor and is satisfying even on its own. It’s too strong for daily drinking but perfect for special occasions or home drinking occasionally.

8th place is Suntory Holdings’ "-196°C Strong Zero Frozen Mikan." A strong type with 9% alcohol. Zero sugar and purines, with a refreshing mandarin aroma. Not too sweet, and recommended for those trying 9% for the first time. Perfect after a bath.

9th place is Tomi Trading’s "Suteki Shibori 100% Fruit Juice Chuhai Pineapple." No sweeteners or preservatives, 100% fruit juice. It has a tropical aroma as soon as you open it. Rich flavor, so not for daily drinking, but great as a treat to savor slowly.

10th place is Kirin Beer’s "Honshibori Chuhai Lemon." Focused on using only fruit juice and alcohol, part of the "Honshibori" series. Contains 12% fruit juice, with a tartness and bitterness that feel like biting into a real lemon. Pairs well with fried chicken or yakitori, and you can drink it every night without getting tired.

Choose your favorite canned chuhai based on your taste and the scene you’re drinking in.
