President of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, Wang Ning: We must firmly build an open and cooperative global semiconductor industry ecosystem.
On March 25, SEMICON China 2026 opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. In the opening remarks, Wang Ning, Chair of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce, offered three suggestions for the development of the global semiconductor industry: First, firmly pursue openness and cooperation, and build an industry ecosystem for a global semiconductor sector with mutual benefits and win-win outcomes. In today’s world, economies of different countries are interdependent like lips and teeth. The semiconductor industry needs greater inclusiveness as well. It is suggested that the global industry should uphold the spirit of tearing down barriers, removing isolation, and strengthening collaboration to enhance each other’s complementary strengths. Second, uphold technology-driven innovation and strengthen core technology R&D efforts from “workable” to “advanced.” To achieve high-quality development, innovation is key. It is suggested that, on the one hand, efforts should continue to be intensified on breakthroughs in core advanced packaging equipment materials, EDA software, and more. On the other hand, with an eye toward emerging sectors such as AI computing power centers and automotive electronics, the industry should take a forward-looking approach to secure first-mover advantages and preempt the initiative. Third, build talent hubs with a reasonable structure and pipeline of talent. It is suggested to improve local talent cultivation and growth mechanisms. (Sina Finance)
