【Caixin Global】 Over the past 40 years, men’s football has been one of the few areas in China that has failed to make progress. Professional sports are the most globalized sector, and China and Europe should strengthen cooperation in football. On March 24, Jiang Xiajuan, Chair of the National Data Expert Advisory Committee, made the above remarks during the 2026 annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia.

Before that, when discussing how China and Europe could strengthen cooperation, Michele Geraci, the former deputy minister of economic development of Italy, jokingly said, “If you’re in semiconductors, come to China; if you’re in football, stay in Europe.” These remarks are meant to remind foreign investors to understand the policy direction of China’s industrial development.
