Corning Inc. and Meta Platforms have announced a new $6 billion partnership to expand Corning’s optical cable manufacturing facility in the Hickory area, North Carolina. This expansion, which will create about 1,000 new jobs, aims to supply fiber optic cables for Meta’s advanced data centers over the next five years, supporting the growing demands of artificial intelligence. The project highlights North Carolina’s crucial role in the global fiber-optic supply chain and further establishes Catawba County as a “Data Center Corridor.”
