Wow, such a contingency in Mexico City today. They just confirmed that Phase I for ozone pollution in the Valley of Mexico is still in effect, so restrictions remain. What’s happening is that it’s extremely hot, there’s a lot of solar radiation, and the air hardly moves, so all the smog stays trapped there. Temperatures are between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius, perfect conditions for ozone to accumulate, especially between 1 and 7 PM.

That’s why they reactivated the Double No-Drive Day. Basically, this Wednesday, cars with hologram 2 cannot circulate, hologram 1 vehicles with specific ending numbers, vehicles without verification, and a good portion of trucks are restricted. Those allowed to go out are electric, hybrid, emergency vehicles, and some with hologram 0 or 00 that don’t have restrictions. They’re also asking people to avoid outdoor exercise during peak hours, especially children and the elderly.

The environmental contingency in Mexico City today remains serious. They say they will monitor everything throughout the afternoon to decide whether to lift or maintain it. In the meantime, it’s best to stay home if possible, especially during those hours when the air is most polluted. The Environmental Commission continues to observe how everything develops.
