The Education Bureau announced yesterday the arrangements for 15 schools with “no-p0 (派0班)” planned class arrangements, including 4 schools that will be phased out. Among them, 9 schools have applied for a merger plan, 1 school has applied to open one private primary class, and 4 schools will be phased out or cease operations no later than the end of the 2029/30 school year.

In response to a media inquiry, Saisike Bay Government Primary School confirmed that it will be phased out in an orderly manner. It has submitted a plan to the Education Bureau and will later submit the implementation details of the relevant plan for the bureau’s approval.

The school said that after detailed consideration of various factors, including students’ well-being, changes in the school-age population, and the supply and demand of school places, the welfare of students is the top priority. The aim is to provide students with a more suitable learning environment and opportunities for group learning, to help them adapt to the new learning environment early on. The school also consulted representatives of various stakeholders regarding the phased-out plan, and it has already been approved at a meeting of the School Management Committee. It has also informed parents.

This is, after the closure of Xiangdao Government Primary School in the 2024/25 school year, the latest instance of a government primary school being shut down.
