India sharply rolled back its domestic airfare fuel prices just hours after raising them to a historic record, plunging the aviation industry—already shaken by the Middle East conflict—back into volatility. India’s largest refining company, Indian Oil Corporation, which sets fuel prices, initially doubled the April aviation fuel price in New Delhi to 207341 rupees per kiloliter (2187 dollars). According to the company’s website, only a few hours later the price was revised to 104927 rupees, up just 8.6% from the previous month. In a statement posted on the social platform X, India’s Ministry of Petroleum said that due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and turbulence in global energy markets, “domestic aviation fuel prices should have risen by more than 100% on April 1.” But the official added that the state-owned fuel retailers implemented only a partial, step-by-step adjustment.
