(MENAFN) Multiple explosions shook the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz early Wednesday as military operations involving the United States and Israel continued, according to reports from Iranian media.

According to reports citing a provincial security official, “four intense explosions” were heard in the eastern area of the city. The official indicated that there have been no confirmed casualties or injuries so far.

Ahvaz, which serves as the capital of Khuzestan province, is located close to Iran’s border with Iraq.

As stated by reports, US and Israeli forces have been conducting sustained airstrikes on Iranian territory since late February, with Iranian authorities saying the attacks have resulted in more than 1,340 deaths. In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes aimed at Israel, along with targets in Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf nations that host American military bases.

Official figures indicate that at least 13 US troops have been killed since the conflict began. The ongoing hostilities have also contributed to rising energy costs and caused disruptions to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit point responsible for around 20% of daily supply.
