The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued an announcement on Wednesday lifting sanctions on Venezuela’s interim President Rodríguez.

According to a notice released by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, Rodríguez’s name has been removed from the sanctions list.

Rodríguez welcomed the decision. In a post on a social media platform, she said this is a step toward normalizing and strengthening relations between the two countries. She believes this development will help lift the sanctions currently imposed on Venezuela and enable Venezuela and the United States to establish and ensure an effective bilateral cooperation agenda that will benefit the people of both countries.

On January 3 this year, U.S. forces launched a large-scale military strike against Venezuela, forcibly took control of President Maduro of Venezuela and his wife, and brought them to the United States. The then vice president, Rodríguez, subsequently assumed the role of interim president. In recent days, Venezuela and the United States have each restored their embassies in the other country.
