Xinhua News Agency, New York, April 1 - The three major indexes of the New York stock market rose on April 1.

By the close that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 224.23 points from the previous trading day, closing at 46,565.74 points, a gain of 0.48%; the S&P 500 index rose 46.80 points, closing at 6,575.32 points, a gain of 0.72%; and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 250.32 points, closing at 21,840.95 points, a gain of 1.16%.

In terms of sectors, out of the eleven S&P 500 sectors, eight advanced, two declined, and one was unchanged. The industrial sector and the communication services sector led the gains with increases of 1.65% each. The energy sector and the consumer staples sector led the declines with declines of 3.89% and 0.57%, respectively. The financial sector was flat compared with the previous trading day.
