In the crypto market, our biggest opponent is often not the whales or the market trends, but ourselves in the mirror.
#MyGate Trading Moments
Looking back at my past trades, I always fell into a vicious cycle: making a little profit and rushing to lock it in, fearing the gains will slip away; but once caught in a position, I would hold on stubbornly, even adding blindly to my position in hopeless situations to average down. The root of this “small gains, big losses” behavior is human nature’s innate greed and fear.
What completely changed my perspective was a series of consecutive trades caused by emotional outbursts. Watching my position teeter on the edge of liquidation, the extreme anxiety and helplessness made me realize: never try to fight human weakness with your body. Human willpower is fragile in the face of real money fluctuations.
Since changing human nature is difficult, I decided to use rational tools and rules to lock down impulsive emotions.
Later, I started doing “subtraction” in trading, entrusting more decisions to mechanical strategies:
1. Forcing myself to use trading tools: I began experimenting with @Gate__Square platform’s spot/contract grid and other quantitative strategies. Let the machine buy low and sell high within set ranges. During market volatility, the machine executes coldly, and I no longer have to watch minute-by-minute charts with anxiety.
2. Strict single-trade stop-loss zones: For every trade, I must set a stop-loss at the moment of entry. Treat the stop-loss as a “seatbelt” to protect my capital, not as a badge of shame for failure.
3. Viewing “not watching the screen” as a strategy: After setting alerts and take-profit/stop-loss levels, actively stay away from the screen. Go for a run, review past trades, or chat with the hardcore guys at Gate Square. Giving up control actually helped me hold onto the trend.
Now I am more like a disciplined assembly line worker than a gambler with bloodshot eyes at the table.
High leverage and frequent all-in bets bring only short-term adrenaline rushes, while reasonable strategies and tools lead to long-term compound growth. Learning to use tools to restrain myself is the most important cognitive leap I’ve made at Gate.io.
