Just went down a rabbit hole looking at Pakistan's currency history and man, the depreciation story is brutal. Back in 1947 when the country was founded, 1 USD was only 3.31 PKR. For decades it stayed pretty stable, but then things started shifting.

The real acceleration happened from the 90s onwards. By 2001 the rate had jumped to 63.50 PKR per dollar, and it just kept climbing. If you check the 2011 dollar rate in pakistan, it was sitting around 88.60 PKR. That's already a massive drop from the early years.

But that was just the beginning. Fast forward to 2019 and you're looking at 163.75 PKR per dollar. Then 2022 hit different - suddenly it's 240 PKR. By 2023 it was at 286 PKR. The currency just kept getting weaker.

Now in 2024 it's around 277 PKR per dollar. What's crazy is watching how much purchasing power has eroded over the decades. The 2011 dollar rate in pakistan was already a fraction of what it started as, and we've seen another tripling since then. Definitely puts inflation and economic pressure into perspective when you look at it this way.
