Just looked into what is EFA and honestly it's a pretty solid option if you want exposure to developed markets outside the US. It's basically this massive ETF tracking European, Australian and Asian stocks - we're talking nearly 940 holdings with none dominating at more than 2%. The thing that caught my eye is the liquidity. With over 67 billion in assets, spreads are tight so you're not bleeding money on transaction costs. Japan and the UK make up like 41% of the weight, which makes sense given how established those markets are. What's interesting is how underweight it is on tech compared to the S&P 500 - only 5.5% versus way more in US indexes. Instead it's heavy on financials, industrials and consumer discretionary, so it's definitely more cyclical. The fee is 0.33% annually which is reasonable for this type of fund, though if you want to go cheaper there's a similar option at 0.08%. For anyone looking to diversify beyond US equities without picking individual stocks, what is EFA really offering? A liquid, diversified play on developed markets with reasonable costs. Worth considering if that's your goal.
